Alcaraz's decision precludes him from competing again at the Rotterdam Ahoy, where he defeated Alex de Minaur in three sets to win his first indoor ATP title in 2025
The ABN AMRO (Rotterdam) Open organizers confirmed on Monday that world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will not be returning to defend his title at the ATP 500 event.
After a difficult Australian Open campaign that resulted in a historic victory in Melbourne, the Spaniard has decided to take a break.
Alcaraz's decision precludes him from competing again at the Rotterdam Ahoy, where he defeated Alex de Minaur in three sets to win his first indoor ATP title in 2025.
"In Rotterdam, Carlos Alcaraz will not defend his championship. The Australian Open champion came to the conclusion that he needs more time to resume competition following his efforts over the previous two weeks. "We hope Carlos recovers quickly," the ABN AMRO Open organizers stated on Monday.
Alcaraz's retirement follows his historic victory at the Australian Open, when he defeated Novak Djokovic 2–6, 6–2, 6–3, and 7–5 in the final to win the title for the first time. With all four major titles won before the age of 22, he became the youngest man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam.
